What is Mimecast?

Mimecast is the security protection software within our email system. The software blocks against phishing, spam, viruses, and other types of malicious activities.

Why do we have it in place?

There has been a high volume of malicious attacks towards campus. This system will help project the campus community.

How does it affect me?

Currently Mimecast will affect you in two ways. First, the email quarantine. Second, the URL protection.

Email Quarantine:

This quarantine blocks all messages that might be harmful to campus in some way. You will receive a digest email three times a day.

URL Protection:

When click a link in your email, the URL protection will check to make sure the link is safe and an actual link.

Do I have to wait for the digest email to see blocked emails?

No you do not. Everyone has access to a personal web portal that allows you access any blocked email at any time.

How long do I have to release a spam email?

Mimecast will hold on to an email for 14 days. After that, you will no longer be able to access the blocked emails.

How often do I have to register for the URL Protection?

Just the first time you click a link on a new device. You will not have to register the same device more than once.
