General Instructions

(These are taken from the web version, but will look similar on the different platforms.)


1. Create a file or folder in which you want to share

2. Select the item you wish to share


3. Then click 'Share' in the top menu



4. Now you can choose the permissions by clicking the box under the title


5. Select the best option that fits your needs

  • Who would you like this link to work for? 
    • Anyone with the link: This will allow you to share with one, including people outside of DWU (for more info click here)
    • People in Dakota Wesleyan University with the link: this will allow anyone in DWU who you have shared this link with to access the items
    • People with existing access: use this to send an updated link to those who you have already shared the folder with
    • Specific People: this will let you type in email addresses (DWU and external) of who you want to access the items, and only those people can access them
  • Other settings
    • Allow editing: this will let whom ever you have share the item with make edits (documents and folder structure)
    • If you only to share a view only link then make sure this box is unchecked
    • You can send different permissions to different people


6. Share the Link

  • Enter a name or email address: this works best if you are just sending to a handful of people
  • Copy Link: This will allow you to put the link anywhere: email, website, Canvas, etc.
  • Outlook: This will allow you to customize the message received along with the link, also you can send to groups and lists of people



More information

  • Laptop/Desktop: If you are currently working on a document, in the upper right hand corner is a share button. By clicking on it you will have the option to share via an email address. If you have not saved the document in OneDrive, it will ask you to do that first. Or Navigate to where you have the file saved in your OneDrive folder, right click and select the Share that has the OneDrive cloud icon. Then you will be able to enter the email address of the person you wish to share the file with. 
  • Tablet/Mobile Device: If you are currently working on a document, in the upper right hand corner is a share button. By clicking on it you will have the option to share via an email address. If you have not saved the document in OneDrive, it will ask you to do that first. Or Navigate to where you have the file saved in your OneDrive app. Select the three periods to bring up more options (...) and select share. Then you will be able to enter the email address of the person you wish to share the file with.
